Prince’s House.

Built by the Prince’s Foundation for the Built Environment at the BRE research Centre in Watford, the Prince’s House (formerly known as “Natural House”), features a range of low carbon technologies providing substantial energy savings when in use. The house is built from aerated clay blocks with wool insulation and is heated by a combination of an air-source heat pump and a single wood burning stove.

Ventilation is provided by an Aereco humidity controlled natural ventilation system with EHT wall air inlets and GHN exhaust units. According to Hank Dittmar (Chief Executive of the Prince’s Foundation for the Built Environment), winter testing carried out on the house showed that the internal temperature did not fall below 17°c even when the stove was not lit.
